Yesterday my 16-year-old son passed his drivers test. He is now a licensed driver in the State of Ohio, with all the freedoms and responsibilities such license brings. I hope we have instilled in him the importance of being able to control a machine that can kill him or others. My mantra has always been to him (Think what the consequences of your actions will be. Does my decision have a chance of changing my life or someone else’s forever).
Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers out there who work tirelessly everyday to provide a happy home for their family. Thanks especially to my mom who has been a rock throughout a tough year. Also to my wife who is a wonderful mother to our three kids. Friday night the girls wanted to make a cake for Christie for mothers day. Christie was at a friends getting her hair done so we took advantage of the time to make a the cake. My girls enjoy cooking and I love to teach them. They had a recipe for an ice cream cake from a Pampered Chef kids cookbook. Since it was late, we improvised with the ingredients we had on hand, using what Christie likes.
This is just a basis for an ice cream cake. Make things easy on yourself and use what you have on hand.
My kids love that I cook and I am always eager to have them help me in the kitchen and taste my creations. I encourage them to be creative and come up with their own recipes. One of the best times I have, every year, is making birthday cakes for my kids. They come up with a theme or idea and I figure out how to make it. In a future post I will show my collection of cakes I have made over the years.
Tonight my daughter Emily wanted to make, for her evening treat, a fresh strawberry smoothie. We had a bunch of fresh strawberries on hand, and some honey flavored Greek style yogurt, Greek Gods brand http://www.greekgodsyogurt.com/html/. The smoothie was simple, easy and she loved it. This would be great for a healthy afternoon snack.
